Summer residence

Situated in the heart of Latin Quarter, between the Val de Grace Chapel and the ancient abbey of Port Royal, the Maison des Mines is only 500 meters far from Jardin du Luxembourg (French Senate Garden) and near some wonderful swimming pools on the road of Compostelle (St. Jacques Street). Its prestigious geographic situation allows young people of all over the world (students, interns, visitors, sportsmen, searcher or teachers, etc.) to benefit from a very pleasant and cost-efficient sojourn from 1 week to 3 months during scholar vacation period (from mid-June to mid-September), individually or in organised group.

There are halls and meeting rooms to be rented in the day (link Meeting). We have even facilities for collective and sportng activities (accommodation, restaurants and fitness center)

Each floor level is equipped with shower and sanitary facilities. A kitchen is reserved for public use and each room is equipped with a kitchenette (sink, refrigerator) for simple preparation of food. Catering service (in-room or collective) can be ordered for organised groups for rapid meal. The residence is near many good restaurants and student restaurant is open during summer time.

We receive about 450 to 500 young people from all over the world during summer. Young people of all the continents can meet and exchange in Maison des Mines.

Cancellations

Notice must be given 15 days before the arrival date in order to receive reimbursement of the deposit. In the event of a change in the departure date (before or after the set date), 15 days notice must be given or the entire stay will be billed.

Meetings

In tune with Latin Quarter's fame (renowned for its tradition of higher education, training, talk and debate), and reinforced by its strong link with ParisTech, the Maison des Mines, is a place for conferences, gathering and meetings. You can access our rooms either by Saint Jacques Street, either by Pierre Nicole Street, with a wide receiving hall.

We have 7 meeting rooms of different dimension for our customers :

Hall G – 30 places

The renting can be occasional or regular. Preferential price for yearly renting.

Equipment

The meeting halls are equipped with tables and chairs. The big larger hall (Hall AB of 200 places) includes a podium which might be adjustable custom-tailored.

Multi-purpose hall

Furthermore, we have a multi-purpose hall (gym type) which can be used for different cultural or sportive activities : theatre, judo, martial arts, yoga, etc..

Restaurants

External catering service is possible within the establishment for large organised groups (minimum 20 persons). For a smaller group (10/20 persons), we have the advantage to be in a touristy quarter where there are multiple restaurants of different gastronomies.

The renting contract is signed after having studied together the details. The following table summarizes the conditions :

Housing in the MDM

During the school period (from September to June), the residence is reserved to students of the three schools (Mines, Ponts et Chaussées, ENSTA)

As soon as a student is informed that he is admitted, he can ask his school for an inscription file. The admission is decided by the school. The student representatives (called Piauleurs) are chosen among students of 2nd and 3rd years. They are responsible for receiving the newcomers and distribution of the rooms. Every room is, as a rule, shared by two students ; but the 3rd year students may, as exceptions, rent individual rooms.

The student representatives inform their newcomers of the daily student life, whereas the staff is in charge of the daily life. And the management team is responsible for the overall ruling

200 rooms for 390 persons

The residence includes 200 rooms for 390 persons ; they are distributed among the three engineering schools Grandes Ecoles (Mines 268 roomplaces, Ponts 102 rooms, ENSTA 20 rooms)

About thirty rooms are equipped with shower ; the rest have an access to showers in the corridor.

The rooms are equipped with bed, writing desk. Kitchenettes (refrigerator and sink) are helpful for preparing breakfast and rapid food. Tableware and hot plates are not supplied. Gas tube is forbidden within the room. Cooking can be done in reserved places (with microwave and hob). Each student is responsible for keeping his room clean and tidy. Routine cleaning is assumed by housekeeping staff. There is Internet Access, created and managed by the Students.

Services

Maintenance works, undertaken by a technician, are reported to the manager and registered by the secretary.

Bed linens are furnished (except towels)

A coin laundry (modest price) is available to all the students (washing machines and dryers) in the basement.

A Resident Club with a bar and a ballroom is reserved for students, which is a place for gathering and various activities.

There are also a soundproof hall, a piano hall, a televison room and a fitness room for the well-being of the students.

Students can also use meeting rooms for studies or small classes if they are not reserved for other purpose.

The tariffs for students benefit from APL convention or ALS : these are the allowances destined to students by French Authority CAF . The file is to be withdrawn from the CAF (address and internet) and the completed formula should be submitted to the direction. The secretary and the student representatives can give helpful information for the administrative procedure.

The students'home called Maison des Mines is a students' residence of 200 rooms. It is located in Latin Quarter, between Panthéon and Val de Grace, and at 500 meters of Jardin du Luxembourg (French Senate Garden). It is a complex of two buildings with several conference halls and meeting rooms, which can be used for seminars, training course, technical or scientificor medical congress and sportive activities.

Students' Residence of ParisTech

The Maison des Mines is the residence for students from the three following “Grandes Ecoles” :

Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Paris (ENSMP)
Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC)
Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Techniques Avancées (ENSTA)

The Maison des Mines is reserved from September to June for their students. Two criteria for the distribution of rooms : the capital share of the three associations of alumni of each school and the number of Parisian students of each school. Residence Open to foreign students

The Maison des Mines is open all year around and receives during summer season (from June to September) students, interns, visitors for a sojourn from 1 week to 3 months. Each summer we receive about 450 strangers..

Place of conferences and meetings

Several meeting halls are available in the day as well as in the evening, even during the weekends. We receive various clients : Clio, University La Sorbonne, Scientifics or Medical conferences, Sportive activities (Judo, Gym fitness), Churches, Syndic General Assembly, literary/philosophic clubs, etc. More details and tariffs are found in the page « Meetings » of our site.

History of Maison des Mines

The residence is composed of two buildings. The first one was built in 1932 with a capacity of 110 rooms on Saint Jacques Street. The second one was built in 1962 on Pierre Nicole street side.

These two buildings, like all the others in the hilly area of Latin Quarter, are built on top of the catacombs. They are cavities of 20 or 30 meters deep, and the results of limestone mining which have contributed to the construction of Paris. The presence of these catacombs (cherished by the students of Ecole des Mines) has imposed important costly consolidation of groundwork. It has also led to a historical discovery ; an authentic statue of roman god Mercury (1 meter) has been found. It has been donated by the Mining Association of former students of Ecole des Mines to the city of Paris, and is now displayed in Carnavalet Musum for exposition.
